Animal Welfare Act

We want the House of Representatives to AMEND THE LAW to prohibit factory farms in New Zealand

The partial success of the proposed banning of sow crates is great news. However, the banning of all factory farming must be pursued to reflect our nation's fundamental beliefs of civilised human behaviour in our society that does not tolerate or justify cruelty in any form. We can not take a holier than thou position as the leading nation in Animal Welfare when our law still protects the cruelty and suffering inflicted on animals by factory farm practices.

PLEASE NOTE: Widespread practice of factory farming (as opposed to the familiar outdoor farming) occurs in New Zealand including the poultry, pig, goat, dairy and fur industries. A strong online response will add to the debate and display the depth of feeling of the New Zealand public. It is hoped that all the proposed amendments of this online petition will be included in some form to any changes to the Animal Welfare Act.
